I offer proofreading, copyediting, and substantive editing for a range of manuscripts and materials, with a focus on copy for corporate and nonprofit clients; academic writing, including books, dissertations, and graduate school application essays; and literary manuscripts. I also specialize in editing for nonnative English speakers.
I typically work in Microsoft Word, using the Track Changes feature. In all cases, I work within a client’s specifications, adhering to the relevant style guide (or developing one, if necessary). My objective, always, is to strengthen your manuscript while maintaining your vision and voice.
LEVELS OF EDITING
Proofreading: During proofreading, I edit for spelling, grammar, and basic consistency. If you consider your project finished and simply want to make sure it's error free, choose this option.
Copyediting: Copyediting includes correcting all typos, grammatical and formatting errors, and awkward phrasing. I ensure consistency throughout the manuscript and offer suggestions related to word choice and basic readability.
Substantive editing: Substantive editing includes restructuring, limited rewriting, and suggestions for further improvement.
RATES
I work on an hourly or project basis, depending on your needs. For a complete estimate, email 1–2 pages as a Word document and the total word count. Please let me know of any specific concerns.
